With lounge seating and a guaranteed window seat, all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the journey as you travel over 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels. As an Excellence Class passenger, you will receive a welcome drink on the platform at St. Moritz or Zermatt before setting off on your rail journey through the three cantons Grisons, Uri and Wallis. Once seated, a compass on the ceiling will help you keep track of the many twists and turns en route.
There are plenty of magnificent sights along the Glacier Express route. With an unimpeded view of the Swiss Alps throughout your journey, you will travel across the impressive Albula Viaduct III between Preda and Bergün, through the idyllic Val Bever in Engadin, and past the legendary Olympia Bob Run, the world’s only natural ice track. The spectacular 61.67-kilometre Albula Line that connects Thusis with St. Moritz features 144 bridges, as well as numerous tunnels and colonnades, and enjoys UNESCO World Heritage status.
While you sit back in your window seat and enjoy the breathtaking panorama outside during your eight-hour journey, the concierge will happily share anecdotes about the different regions that you pass through. Excellence Class passengers are each provided with a tablet that also offers fascinating information about the route, the region, the country and the locals. In the afternoon, tea is served with biscuits and pastries while the beautiful landscape slowly rolls past the train window. An aperitif, amuse-bouches, various snacks and an all-day catering service will keep you going until it’s time for the regional five-course menu including wine.
