Camping
The new boom for holidays in nature.
Exploring Switzerland and its unique natural landscapes in a motorhome or spending the night in a tent under the stars is the ultimate feeling of freedom. People are increasingly looking for unusual places, proximity to nature and spending their holidays back in their own country. Another phenomenon is so-called glamping – camping without giving up the usual luxury.
Wild camping is not generally prohibited in Switzerland – but it is not generally allowed either. The legal provisions on wild camping or free overnight camping outside official campsites are mostly regulated at communal level. It is prohibited in sensitive habitats such as nature reserves, national parks or biotopes.
If you want to spend the night in public places and car parks, you should inform yourself about the legal situation in advance directly at the respective municipal administration, the local tourist office or the police.
The basic rule when camping is: treat nature with respect, do not leave any waste behind and leave the place as you would like to find it yourself. Be considerate of wildlife and do not make noise. Fires are discouraged.
