Camping in the Engadin

More popular than ever

Exploring Switzerland and its unique natural landscapes in your camper van or spending the night in a tent under the stars is the ultimate feeling of freedom. Camping is currently experiencing a tremendous boom - also in the Engadine with its wonderful places in the middle of nature. Also this year the camping boom remains unbroken: people are increasingly looking for unusual destinations, a connection to nature, and are spending  their holidays in their own countries again. Another  phenomenon is so-called glamping – luxury camping. Occupancy will be high again this year, which is why many people set up their mobile homes, vans or tents outside of  official campsites.

Wild camping is not generally forbidden in Switzerland, but it is also not generally allowed. The legal provisions surrounding wild camping or staying in camper vehicles overnight outside of official camp-sites are mostly regulated at the municipal level. It is prohibited in sensitive habitats such as nature  reserves, national parks and biotopes. If you want to stay overnight in public places or parking lots, you should inform yourself about the legal situation in advance directly from the necessary municipal  administration, local tourist office or the police. The basic principles for camping are: treat nature with respect, don’t leave any trash behind and leave the place as you would want to find it. In  addition, be considerate of the wildlife and don’t make noise. Fire is not recommended.
