Children Yoga

My children's yoga classes are based on simple stories that teach values such as courage, friendship and sharing. Age-appropriate asanas (physical exercises) are incorporated into the fantasy stories. The children participate in the story - it's a shared experience. After we have laid out our skins together in a circle, we greet each other with a joint Namasté, the yoga greeting. I start the story - sometimes we fly across a flower meadow as butterflies, fly to the moon in a rocket or are superheroes. The ideas bubble out of the little yogis' heads and we expand the story together. As we immerse ourselves in the fantasy story, I incorporate sensory perceptions such as buzzing bees, a strong wind, etc. At the end of the story, I explain the value of the story and repeat the meaningful content. We close the yoga story again with a Namasté together.
