The Engadin is characterized by its impressive mountain backdrop, the barren landscape, and the lake. Architecture plays an important role in the identity of the region. Architecture is everywhere. The rural Engadine house is still very present today, but contemporary buildings also seek to establish a connection to the region. St. Moritz was a field of architectural experimentation and always anticipated future developments.

St. Moritz is very characterized by tourism. Over the last 150 years, the town has repeatedly adapted to new requirements and has continually developed further. On our walk we meet buildings from different times. Although the buildings represent different architectural attitudes, they show an unbroken fascination with exclusive places in the Alps. Original tourism was still an exclusive travel experience, developed into a sporting occasion and is now characterized by international, exclusive idleness. The architecture has a direct relationship to the breath-taking mountains and the mountain lake in front of them.
