Muottas Muragl

Muottas Muragl, Engadine’s panoramic mountain, offers a unique view of the Upper Engadine lake landscape and the Bernina Massif. The 1905 funicular railway was the first in the Engadine and still exudes a James Bond ambience.

Up at 2,456 m above sea level, a breathtaking panorama, romance and culinary delights await. Muottas Muragl offers snowshoe tours and winter hikes. The Philosophers’ Path inspires with quotes along the way from renowned intellectuals such as Erich Kästner. On the short circular “Senda d’Inspiraziun” path, you will find, among other things, the most accurate sundial in the world. It shows the time accurately to within 10 seconds.

Toboggan run

A challenging toboggan run awaits guests in winter. On the approximately four-and-a-half-kilometre-long track, adventurous tobogganers drop a rapid 718 metres and make 20 turns. Toboggans can be hired directly from the station at the bottom of the run.

Snowshoe tour

The snowshoe tour on Muottas Muragl is about three and a half kilometres long and offers fantastic panoramic views over the snow-covered Upper Engadine, the wintry Engadine lake landscape and the Bernina Massif. The circular route takes about 1.5 hours and covers a gentle 229 metres in altitude. Well signposted, the tour is also suitable for beginners.

Panoramic Restaurant and hotel

The panoramic restaurant also delights non-hotel guests with its culinary treats and stunning views, which in fine weather can be enjoyed outside on the generous sun terrace. Children can let off steam in the playground right behind the hotel, which is open in summer and winter.
