The St. Moritz Design Gallery: DRIVE WITH ME – The Automobile as Stage, Mirror and Myth
open
Via Grevas 53
7500, St. Moritz
For about a decade, St. Moritz has been experiencing a second automotive boom – less about horsepower displays, more about visual culture and social interaction. This development is closely linked to the work of St. Moritz photographer Fabrizio D'Aloisio, who has significantly shaped it photographically over the past ten years. In St. Moritz, the car is more than just a means of transportation: it's a status symbol, a prop, a statement – a vehicle for identity and a catalyst for storytelling. This is precisely where DRIVE WITH ME comes in: the automobile becomes a means of staging – sometimes the main character, sometimes a supporting actor – in dialogue with grand hotels, mountain passes, runways, and architecture. Many of the images were created in connection with local events such as THE ICE St. Moritz, Passione Engadina, the British Classic Car Meeting St. Moritz, or the Bernina Gran Turismo; others as individual works or as part of D'Aloisio's book Car Guys (2020). Together they paint a picture of St. Moritz that presents itself as an icon and holiday classic – idiosyncratic as ever, with a culture of cultivated nonsense, a touch of irony and that joie de vivre that has been at home here for generations.
