Snapshot: White Turf 1937

White Turf, the iconic winter horse races on the frozen Lake St. Moritz, has been a cherished tradition since 1907. It began with skijoring and trotting races, with flat races added in 1911. This image shows a skijoring race in 1937, with the Badrutt’s Palace, the Grand Hotel (which burned in 1944), and Hotel Chantarella (above the Grand Hotel, demolished in 2001) visible in the background.
