Reading with Mark Sebille – "The Legendary Mountain Guide and the King"
Content
The reading focuses on Paula Wiesinger, one of the most remarkable female alpinists of her time. Mark Sebille paints a vivid portrait of the South Tyrolean who mastered challenging climbing routes and won World Championship gold in skiing in 1932.
Book and background
The book tells, from Paula’s perspective, the story of an unusual rope team: her friendship with King Albert I of Belgium, a passionate mountaineer. Together with her husband Hans Steger, she guided the king on demanding routes in the Dolomites, in Switzerland and in South Tyrol.
Based on research in several countries and illustrated with historical photographs, the reading offers deep insights into alpinism, contemporary history and a friendship that transcended social boundaries.
After the presentation, guests are invited to an aperitif in the Laudinella lobby to continue the conversation with the author.
