Transfigured Night is an almost wistful tribute to the heyday of melodramatic orchestral music. The intimate instrumentation with six stringed instruments creates a tense atmosphere, already testifying to the touch of farewell that permeates this work. Arnold Schönberg manages to bring the art of the unspoken musical word, the symphonic poem, from the grand concert hall into the confidentiality of the salon. The expressively personal warmth of the singing strings opens up a spookily beautiful intermediate world in the secrecy of the night at this lovely place.
With Dzafer Dzaferi and Sara Domjanic, violins, Christoph Klein and Wolfgang Grabner, violas. Pedro Pelaez Romero and Kajana Packo, violoncelli.
Tickets in advance for CHF 25, or CHF 35 at the box office.
