Mahler´s symphonic works are among the greatest and most elaborate among the orchestral repertoire. But performed in a chamber orchestration for smaller concert venues, they lose nothing of their monumental radiance. This unique experience in St. Moritz enables a much closer approach to a great composer´s works, which is always a special event. The evening is dedicated accordingly: Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellenis certainly one of Gustav Mahler´s most personal works, and It has strong connections with his first symphony. The main theme of the second song is the main theme of the 1st movement, and the final verse of the 4th song reappears in the 3rd movement as a contemplative interruption of the funeral march. These two great works are interpreted in front of a magnificent backdrop by talented young musicians already known in Germany´s most prestigious orchestras and concert halls.
With Andreas Beinhauer, baritone, and conducted by Flurin Rüedlinger.
