SMAFF aims to foster a new cultural environment in St. Moritz and in the entire Engadin Valley. While focusing on an agile structure for the initial stage, SMAFF is based on a long term development plan.
The St. Moritz Art Film Festival was founded in 2020 as a non-profit association with the declared intent of organising a national and international cinema and audio-visual festival in St.Moritz and the Engadine valley and of fostering the dissemination of cinema, art and audiovisual culture at the cantonal, national and international level.
The core activities of the Festival, projections, talks & debates, will happen on a yearly base in St. Moritz at the end of August.
SMAFF is defined by three distinctive elements:
- Its unique location in St.Moritz and the Engadine valley;
- A yearly theme constituting the common thread of the programme of screenings - The 2022 theme is: Face-to-Face;
- A hybrid programme fostering the strong connection between visual art and cinema triggers the participation of different types of audiences: scholars, cinema lovers, artists, film producers, actors and collectors engaging in debates in philosophical and cultural fields.
