Architecture walk - open doors in the Engadin and Bergell

The striking wooden building with the large, overhanging roof on the north-western shore of Lake St. Moritz is home to the St. Moritz Sailing Club. The sailing club, founded in the early 1940s and initially housed in a simple wooden house, was able to inaugurate the new boatyard with clubhouse in 1976. The main challenges for the new building were the exposed location between the lake and the cantonal road and the regulations of the shore protection commission. The wooden structure is a supporting framework made of round wooden supports with a gable roof for the shipyard and a flat roof for the clubhouse. The shape of the boatyard's roof appears very sculptural from the outside.

The floor plan of the former clubhouse is no longer preserved in its original form. Over the last 40 years, the original building has been remodeled and expanded several times.

Despite the many renovations, which have distorted the original room layout, especially in the clubhouse, the sailing club building remains a unique building in this location thanks to its striking external shape.

Viewing only from the outside with an information board.
